Experimental and numerical study of cold helical rolling of small-diameter steel balls

Cold helical rolling (CHR) is one of the most effective ways to produce small-diameter steel balls. In this study, kind work hardening model was established and implemented into Simufact 15.0 investigate phenomenon in cold forming process. Firstly, based on theory, a set finite element (FE) simulations developed. The influence CHR parameters, including starting height convex rib, area length, inclination angle, process studied via simulation. Furtherly, experiment FE simulation were carried out; results showed that good agreement with experimental consistent predicted value theoretical calculation. Finally, evolution strain, stress, force, hardening, microstructure during ? 5.2-mm balls investigated FE. As result, trend hardness dislocation density, indicating credible. Besides, ball at different positions further verified point.
